History of the DePaul colors

DePaul's first athletic team was organized in 1900 and wore a 'D' monogram, which led to the nickname 'D-men' and later 'Demons'. The blue was chosen by a student-body vote in 1901 and is said to signify loyalty. The athletics department has long called royal blue and scarlet the official school colors. The current university brand guide calls blue and white the academic colors and blue and red the spirit colors, and says red should be used sparingly.
