History of the Syracuse colors
Syracuse first chose rose pink and pea green in 1872, then switched a year later to pink and blue (rose tint and azure). After the football team's colors drew mockery following an 1889 win at Hamilton College, a student committee found that no other college had claimed orange as its single color. The Alumni Association approved orange as the university's sole official color in 1890, and in 2004 all men's and women's teams were unified under the name 'Syracuse Orange.'
