History of the UCF colors
UCF's black and gold were introduced on April 5, 1968, along with the Pegasus seal and the motto "Reach for the Stars," before the school, then Florida Technological University, opened its doors. UCF Athletics credits founding president Charles Millican with choosing the colors at the same time as the seal. The athletics program itself had no nickname or logo until 1970, so black and gold predate the Knights name.

UCF's new Bold Gold
UCF introduced Bold Gold in 2026. It keeps PMS 7406 but changes the CMYK and RGB values of the earlier Bright Gold, so older merchandise and files may show a slightly different gold.
