History of the Villanova colors
Villanova was founded in 1842 by the Augustinian friars, and the university names navy blue and white as its official school colors. Its brand standards set Pantone 281 as the signature blue. The athletic teams have been the Wildcats since a student vote held after a naming contest run by the Class of 1926, as reported in The Villanovan in May 1926. No university or archival source found explains when or why blue and white were chosen.
