History of the Xavier colors
Xavier's athletics department lists the official colors of the Musketeers as Xavier Blue (PMS 289), metallic silver, silver gray and white, and the university brand guide uses the same PMS 289 navy as its lead color. The Musketeers name dates to spring 1925, when the student paper The Xaverian News ran a contest to name the athletic teams. Francis J. Finn, S.J., suggested 'Musketeers' so that the motto 'All for One and One for All' would stand for the teams' spirit. No university or archival source found explains when or why the school colors were chosen.
