History of the Air Force colors
According to the Academy's cadet guidebook, the original architects chose red, blue and yellow as the Academy colors to fit its modern design: red for the sun, blue for the sky and yellow for the grasses of the plains. Silver, for stainless steel and aircraft technology, was added as a fourth color in place of green. Today's brand keeps these as Academy Blue, Class Royal, Academy Gray, Class Red and Class Yellow. The athletics department lists its colors as blue and silver. The first class, which entered in 1955, chose the falcon as the mascot.
