University of Florida School Colors

History of the Florida colors

According to the University of Florida, orange and blue became UF's official colors in 1911, the same year its sports teams adopted the Gator mascot and nickname after alligator pennants proved popular. The university does not give an official explanation of why those two colors were chosen.
