Choosing a shade of yellow
Yellow covers the bright, lemony yellows and the soft pastel ones. Several famous school 'golds' actually measure as yellow, which is why Michigan maize and the LSU and Iowa golds are matched here rather than on the Gold pages. Hi-vis safety yellow is not included.

Bright yellow is the saturated, lemony yellow: Yellow, Maize, Lemon, Canary and Sunflower. It's brighter and less orange than athletic gold, and not fluorescent like safety yellow. Bright yellow reads as cheerful, energetic and attention-grabbing.
Light yellow is the soft, pastel yellow: Daisy, Butter, Banana and Light Yellow. Pale yellow reads as soft, sunny and friendly.
